THE BRITISH BUMBLE BEE
I have noticed less bees over the last two years. They are so important to our lives more than you know.
Spare a thought for the Bumble bee, they are diminishing in numbers by the bucketful. What is happening. The opinions are that it is the use of pesticides and insecticides and possibly global warming. Changes in agricultural practices are possibly becoming harmful to the bee. Britain has 25 different kinds of Bumble bee all working their little hearts out, gathering nectar and pollinating plants and trees. There is a crisis going on which is blighting the humble bumble – and should we be bothered? Absolutely! There has been a devastating impact on the immune system of the bee and wildlife experts are discovering dying colonies with viruses and diseases. A collapsing colony brings no pollination and therefore no crops. Many farmers are now concerned for their crops. In order for crops to flourish in the fields we need the bees. With the disappearance of local bees from the fields farmers have had to import bees. The new bees are found to have more aggressive foraging techniques and may therefore prey on native species. There is also the possibility of the new immigrants being infected. The fragile Eco-balance is being disrupted by these changes.
Good news - subsidies are now in place to encourage farmers to replant hedgerows encouraging wildlife by setting down grassland and seeding wildflowers.

I took the picture above 2/3 weeks ago of an early bee nuzzling a dandelion. The only dandelion in the field at the time – we are now overrun with them!
Also this sunset picture was taken just before the clocks went forward. We seem to come out of the dark once the clocks change!!
